A 10-YEAR-OLD student who skipped her classes to go swimming with a friend and a relative drowned Thursday afternoon in Barangay Baybay, Alubijid, Misamis Oriental.

Police Officer (PO1) Mark Vallez of Alubijid Police Station identified the victim as Mai-Mai Magtrayo, 10, a Grade 5 student, of Barangay Bulok-bulok, Alubijid town.

Vallez said the victim went swimming with her friend and her uncle Rene Umangos, 28. The three reportedly swam toward a deeper portion of the sea but were driven away by strong currents.

Magtrayo's mother got worried when she failed to return home from school but she later found out that her daughter did not attend her classes. She then asked the help of the local police to look for her daughter, who was later found dead at the seashore, police said.

Sayloun and Umangos remained missing as of press time but police feared they may have been dead. (SB)
