Suspects in killing of massacre witness nabbed

POLICE arrested two suspects believed to be responsible in the murder of a key witness of the Maguindanao massacre case.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm) said the two were collared Friday in a raid conducted at their residences.

Police identified the suspects as Abdullah Pasawilan and Morsed Simpal.

Authorities recovered two caliber .45 mm pistols and two grenades from the suspects.

Pasawilan and Simpal were presented for inquest proceedings Friday before the Provincial Prosecutor's Office for violation of Illegal Possession of Firearms and Explosives.

Authorities are still tracking two more suspects in the killing of witness Suwaid Upham.

Upham confessed to be one of the gunmen who executed the gruesome carnage in Maguindanao last November 23. He was however executed in Parang town last month.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) intensified efforts to the arrest the 112 suspects that remained at large, offering the P250,000 reward for every suspect arrested.

The 112 suspects include 96 members of Civilian Volunteer Organizations (CVO) and 16 members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) who were implicated in the case as result of investigation. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
