MANILA – Both the Toll Regulatory Board and militant group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) welcomed on Friday the Supreme Court’s move to temporarily postpone the implementation of higher toll fees and 12-percent value added toll tax.

In an interview with Sun.Star, TRB spokesman Julius Corpuz said they will “comply” with the High Court’s order although the agency has yet to receive a copy of the order issued by Chief Justice Renato Corona who acted in behalf of the court.

Bayan secretary-general Renato Reyes Jr., for his part, said the Aquino administration should focus on giving “economic relief” to commuters rather than imposing higher toll fees

to meet revenue targets.

“The Aquino government should instead withdraw plans for increasing toll fees and the planned VAT on toll fees as a response to public clamor against new economic burdens. The

government should provide some economic relief for commuters and motorists,” he told Sun.Star.(Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
