MANILA -- The state weather bureau said "Glenda" (international codename: Kompasu) has further intensified into a typhoon as it continues to move northwest of the country at 19 kilometers per hour (kph) Tuesday.

The eye of the typhoon was spotted at 850 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in its 5 a.m. bulletin.

With that, Pagasa warned residents living in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas to be vigilant.

It said northern and central Luzon will experience monsoon rains while the rest of country will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate blowing from the Southwest with slight to moderate seas, Pagasa added. (Sunnex)
