TWO of the Filipino repatriates from the M/V Diamond Princess cruise ship who were earlier brought to hospital after showing symptoms of Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19) have tested negative of the virus.

Based on the latest statement of the Department of Health (DOH), two of the three male repatriates quarantined at the New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac were cleared from the disease.

"Their specimens were collected and sent for testing at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) and the two have already tested, while the other one is still waiting for results," the statement read.

The DOH said it received information that there are two more repatriates who were brought to a health facility because of sore throat.

The repatriates, who are already considered persons under investigation, are already isolated and their specimen were also sent to RITM for testing, the health department noted.

“While we are still waiting for the other test results, we assure the public that our referral hospitals are well-equipped and prepared to handle Covid-19 cases once they arise. Our health response team at the quarantine facility is being extra cautious to prevent further health risks,” it added.

The five PUIs are part of the total 445 Filipinos who were repatriated from the novel coronavirus-hit Japanese cruise ship who arrived in the country on February 26.
