3 die, 5 critical after drinking ‘lambanog’

AT LEAST three men died while five others are in critical condition after reportedly drinking “lambanog” or local coconut wine allegedly laced with formalin in Barangay Aranguren, Capas town in Tarlac province on Wednesday. November 14.

Police identified the fatalities as Edgardo Carreon Sicat, Edelito Cunanan Sicat, and Jommel Garcia Sicat.

The four other victims were Jasper Cunanan Sicat, Jonasbren Lalu Sicat, Zoren Cunanan Sicat, Eric Torres, and Rogelio Ponce Salas.

In a police report, the eight victims, who are related to each other, on Wednesday morning drank bottles of lambanog which one of their relatives, Randy Tiamzon, bought in Magalang town last November 2.

They were taken to three hospitals namely Tarlac Provincial Hospital, Capas Medical Center, Saint Andrea Diagnostic Center after suffering from headache and dizziness Thursday afternoon.

The Tarlac Provincial Police is now conducting a follow-up investigation on the case.
