THE Department of Agriculture (DA) has provided some P121,000 million worth of fuel subsidies to Nueva Ecija farmers in a bid to cushion the effects of rising fuel prices on the corn and fisheries sector.

A total of 404 corn farmers from the province of Nueva Ecija received P3,000 worth of fuel discount cards on July 13, Wednesday at the Nueva Ecija Convention Center.

The DA continues to provide support to farmers and fisherfolk under the Fuel Discount for Farmers and Fisherfolk Program.

Beneficiaries can use the discount card to purchase either gasoline or diesel only from the partner/accredited gasoline stations such as Petron, Shell, PTT, Jetti, Total, and Unioil.

Eligible corn farmers were identified based on the guidelines of the Department of Agriculture Memorandum Circular No. 7, series of 2022, dated March 7, 2022.

To qualify for the said subsidy, the farmer must be registered in the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture; included in the Farmers and Fisherfolk Registry System; owns machinery with proof of ownership.

Moreover, fuel cards will be released in partnership with the Development Bank of the Philippines and Universal Storefront Services Corporation.
