MORE than 600 individuals have been nabbed while hundreds of firearms of various types have been confiscated by the Police Regional Office in Central Luzon (PRO-3).
PRO-3 Regional Director Joel Coronel disclosed that a total of 626 individuals were arrested and charged for violating the gun ban during the election period from January 13 until Wednesday, June 12.
Coronel said a total of 835 long and short firearms were also seized, ranging from 650 small arms (pistols and revolvers), 35 rifles, and 127 improvised or home-made guns called “sumpak.”
Also, a total of 5,374 deadly weapons and 31 firearms replica were also confiscated during the gun ban period.
Coronel said the Central Luzon police force will continue to conduct checkpoints on a regular basis even after the election period officially concluded to ensure the maintenance of peace and order in the region.
“Time and again, I appeal to the public to cooperate with us during our conduct of checkpoint operations and, at the same time, I urged the public to immediately report any possible irregularities committed by our police personnel,” he said. (Princess Clea Arcellaz)
