THE City College of Angeles (CCA) and Smart Communications have partnered to develop the first-ever Kapampangan learning application.

The mobile app, which will be named “Singsing” (based on the Kapampangan folk song), will feature native contents like the Kapampangan indigenous script, numbers, songs and stories designed for Kindergarten up to Grade 3 learners.

“The coming up of the ‘Singsing’ is basically based on the thrust of the government to promote mother tongue-based learning,” said Darwin Flores, Smart Communications’ head for Community Partnerships.

Under the project, the Sídduan ning Ámánang Kabiasnang Kapampángan (Institute for Kapampángan Cultural Heritage) will give focus on the content, while Smart and CCA will lead the technical aspect of the application, which includes graphic design, animation, storyboarding and digitization.

CCA president Dr. Richard Daenos said that the project solidifies not only CCA’s but the city’s commitment in promoting the use of the Amanung Sisuan through digital learning.

Angeles City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan emphasized the project as a good way to utilize technology especially now that almost everything is digital.

“We should not compromise our culture and heritage in this digital age. In fact, these should work hand in hand to strengthen basic education learning through the mother-tongue,” said Pamintuan.

Daenos and Flores finally signed the memorandum of understanding during the kickoff on Thursday at the Newpoint Mall, and in celebration of the Aldo ning Amanung Sisuan.

The application is expected to be fully uploaded and accessible through Google Play for free in November 2019. (PR)
