THE City Government of San Fernando through its Women’s Month Executive Committee and City Health Office in partnership with the Department of Health on Monday staged another Buntis Summit at the mini convention center of Heroes Hall.

The summit is in line with the Women’s Month celebration and aims to deliver tips towards safe and healthy pregnancy until childbirth.

A laboratory test and a dental examination were provided to the more than 1,000 participants who were pregnant women and husbands from different rural health units (RHUs) in the City of San Fernando.

The participants also learned about family planning program and proper maternal care.

The city government also distributed baby care and hygiene kits and conducted some a raffle consisting of cribs, strollers, and breast pumps.

City Health Officer Dr. Eloisa Aquino said that “prevention is better than cure” as she encouraged all pregnant women to have their regular check-ups at rural health units in the City of San Fernando.

“We are making sure that all the facilities, doctors, nurses and midwives are well trained so you have nothing to worry about as all of these are what the city government is offering to you,” Aquino said.

For his part, Mayor Edwin Santiago lauded the City Health Office for always conducting health reform programs which contribute a lot in the city’s advocacy that everyone should receive adequate healthcare.

“We’re doing this summit yearly, because we want all of the Fernandinos to have access to the variety of the city’s programs because the City of San Fernando is the home to vibrant and healthy citizens,” Santiago said.

The mayor added that the city has five RHUs and five birthing stations which are open 24/7 to accommodate the needs of the Fernandinos.

“The fifth birthing station just got opened and we also have RHUs. These show how important you are to the government, since our desires are your safety and to have good health,” Santiago added.
