THE local government of Apalit, through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), continues to disinfect the shrine of St. Peter the Apostle in Barangay Capalangan as part of the preparation for the upcoming fiesta.

The move was aimed to minimize the risk of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) among devotees who are expected to flock the shrine this coming week.

The shrine of the town patron saint, locally known as Apung Iru, is one of the most visited places in Apalit especially during the three-day fiesta celebration on June 28 to 30.

As the shrine will be closed to non-residents during the said days, devotees from different places are expected to make their visits until this week.

"Continuous fogging of the whole area is being conducted to lessen the threat of virus. The altar was also restricted to further prevent the risk of infection," the MDRRMO noted.

Aside from the Apung Iru shrine, the St. Peter the Apostle Parish is also disinfected as the nine-day novena for the fiesta celebration is being held.

The local government continues to remind public who will visit the shrine and attend mass to observe health protocol to avoid being infected by the virus.
