THE local government of Candaba formally launched Wednesday, December 2, the "Disiplina Muna towards defeating Covid-19" campaign of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The program, which was initially intended to promote ease of doing business among government agencies, has been refocused to boost the fight against Covid-19.

Mayor Rene Maglanque, together with Local Government Officer Josephine Villanueva, led the launching of the program through the pledge and signing of the "Bida Ang May Disiplina" commitment board.

It was also participated in by barangay officials, public utility vehicle drivers, market vendors and civic group members.

Villanueva said the activity serves as a renewal of commitment of member-sectors on the "Disiplina Muna" campaign first launched at the start of 2020.

"Instead of focusing on good governance and citizenship alone which was the goal of the original campaign, the DILG and Department of Health put priority on promoting measures to defeat Covid-19 which is a more pressing concern nowadays," she said.

Under the program, member-sectors made a commitment to spearhead the campaign for strict observance of health protocols such as wearing of face mask and face shield, practice of social distancing and dissemination of verified information.

Maglanque, for his part, reminded participants of the responsibility of ensuring the safety of their community their commitment entails.

"Your commitment does not stop after this program. You pledged to be an instrument in defeating Covid-19 and by living up to your commitment, we can make Candaba Covid-19 free again," he said.

Based on the latest data of the Municipal Health Office, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the town is at 66, with only four active cases.
