Guagua mayor opens public market to other towns

GUAGUA Mayor Dante Torres has lifted restrictions on non-Guagua residents from accessing the Guagua Public Market as he allowed customers from other towns in Pampanga access into the largest market facility in the second district.

Torres said customers can now enter the biggest public market in the province even without quarantine passes. The mayor had also ordered the removal of all checkpoints to facilitate the transition.

This came after vendors from the market have availed of free swab tests to ferret out infections. The mayor also ordered vendors to accomplish medical declarations as well as undergo swab testing.

The mayor said all necessary precautions have already been undertaken to ensure vendors and workers are free from coronavirus infection.

“The customers are still required to wear face masks and face shields as well as the necessary social distancing protocols,” Torres said.

Torres said the number of coronavirus cases in the town, some of which emanated from the public market, has now been reduced significantly. At the height of the spike of infection in the town, some 149 active cases have been recorded.

As of press time, some 41 cases are still considered active. The town, however, has recorded one of the highest mortalities with 14 deaths.
