ANGELES City Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. has ordered the shutdown of an alleged illegal slaughterhouse in Delos Santos Street, Barangay Lourdes North West (LNW) on November 2.

The shop violated City Ordinance 431, Republic Act (RA) 9003 or Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, as well as RA 9296 and RA 10536, also known as The Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines.

Lazatin said continuous inspection of meat shops will be conducted for the safety of his constituents.

He also reminded Angelenos to stay vigilant and to not be afraid to report if they know backyard slaughterhouses that sell double-dead meat.

"Open po ang opisina ko para sa mga hinaing ninyo (My office is open for your complaints). Help me to clean our city from people who know nothing but to abuse and take advantage of others," he said.

To prevent the spread of the unconfirmed virus, the pigs were terminated and buried at the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Barangay Pampang.

Three workers of the alleged illegal meat shop were detained at Angeles City Police Office-Station 2. They were identified as Joan Nersy Balboa, Aries Vergara Velasco, and Justine Sicat Oyco.

The alleged owner, a certain Melchor De Guzman, is still at large.

Joining the mayor during the surprise inspection were personnel from Angeles City Police Office, City Veterinary Office, Barangay LNW Council, Angeles City Traffic Development Office, and City Environment and Natural Resources Office. (PR)
