Lacson regains mayoralty seat in Magalang against Pecson

MAGALANG mayor-elect Maria Lourdes “Malu” Paras Lacson made history in Magalang, recording the highest lead in the mayoral race against the incumbent mayor in recent years.

Lacson led by 8,818 votes against Mayor Romulo Pecson. She had 38,560 votes, while Pecson got 29,742 votes, according to Halalan 2022 website.

“I never thought we will have this much lead (in the mayoral race. This is the first time the people of Magalang decisively voted (for their mayor),” said Lacson in the dialect during her victory speech.

“I promised to make a good story in Magalang as your mayor,” she added. “I will not fail you.”

Lacson thanked her supporters for their sacrifices.

In 2019, then incumbent Mayor Lacson lost by 27 votes against Pecson.

In 2016, then mayor Pecson was beaten by Lacson by some 600 votes. (Chris Navarro)
