THE local government of Apalit is set to provide free 70 percent alcohol solution to residents of the town amid the threat of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the country.

Mayor Oscar Tetangco Jr. said the local government is partnering with local alcohol plant Far East Alcohol Corporation (Feaco) to produce 70 percent alcohol solution if needed to address the sudden increase in demand for the product in the market.

Regular use of alcohol is one of the suggested practices of the Department of Health and World Health Organization to protect one's self from the dreaded Covid-19.

If needed, Tetangco said the local government is ready to purchase tankers of alcohol solution from Feaco at a low cost that will then be given to residents.

Residents can then bring their own bottles and get the supply from the local government for free.

"This is part of the preventive measures the local government is continuously implementing to combat Covid-19," he said.

Tetangco said they are only awaiting consent from concerned government agencies before they can push through with the program.

Aside from free alcohol, the local government has also started disinfecting public places and areas of convergence as another layer of protection from the disease.

Tetangco urged anew Apaliteños to be calm as the local government is implementing all possible measures to prevent the entry and spread of the disease in town.

The local government even launched a new slogan "Apalit, Huwag Magpanic" to reassure the community that they are on top of the situation.
