NEWLY-MINTED Bacolor Mayor Eduardo “Diman” Datu did not mince his words when he urged provincial and government agencies to file appropriate charges against quarry permittees in this town have been found violating provincial and environmental laws.

Datu said that he will immediately recommend the suspension of the quarry permits of operators to the provincial government once a formal report had been made by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro) in cooperation with other agencies and the municipal government.

This came after initial inspection of quarry sites in this town yielded possible evidence of over extraction by some quarry operators.

Datu said said that he has concurred with the recommendation of the Penro to conduct rapid assessment of all quarry sites in Bacolor so that erring operators will be properly identified along with the needed rehabilitation works for affected areas.

“We will need to follow the law. Those who cannot comply and have defied the law would have to face the consequences of their actions,” Datu said.

Datu called on all quarry operators in Bacolor to comply with what is only allowed by the law. The Penro added that there will now be more extensive monitoring of quarry operations as there have been areas that have been over extracted in the town.

The Penro will be conducting rigid inspection of quarry areas.

Datu also said that he will only have quarry trucks in designated routes and will be strict in implementing his order not to allow quarry trucks in dense communities here for the safety of the people and to maintain vital roads of the town.
