Thus said Mayor Edwin Santiago, as the City of San Fernando marked its 21st cityhood charter anniversary with a thanksgiving mass officiated by Archdiocese of San Fernando Archbishop Emeritus Paciano Aniceto last February 4, 2022 at the Metropolitan Cathedral and attended by Santiago, Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin, City Councilor BJ Lagman and city department heads.

The City of San Fernando became a city by virtue of Republic Act 8990, which was signed into law on February 4, 2001.

“Ang ating mga ninuno, lahat ng naging lider, empleyado, puso at dedikasyon sa serbisyo publiko ang kanilang pinairal upang magampanan ang kanilang sinumpaang tungkulin. For how many years, madaming pagsubok ang dumating sa atin but we are unbreakable. The City of San Fernando is unbreakable because of its resilient Fernandinos,” Santiago added.

Santiago added that even through the Covid-19 pandemic, the City Government still continues its programs for the welfare of the Fernandinos.

“Masasabi talaga natin na tayo ay matatag dahil sa kabila ng pagharap natin sa pandemya nitong 2020, ay ipinagpatuloy pa rin natin ang ating mga programa at proyekto. Hindi tayo bumitaw. We continue, we envision and we serve. Kaya naman heto tayo ngayon. Malakas at matiba,” the mayor added.

Anchored on the theme “Adwang pulu’t metung a banwang pamiyabe-abe, king kapagsubukan at tagumpe, Fernandino kang tune matatag at matibe,” the local government lined up various activities to celebrate this significant milestone.

All activities are compliant with the protocols prescribed by the Incident Management Team and Inter-Agency Task Force.

Prior to the thanksgiving mass, a motorcade was held starting from SM Pampanga to Heroes Hall initiated by the City Public Order and Safety Coordinating Office.
