AFTER more than a year of battle against the coronavirus disease, San Simon town, Pampanga recorded on Tuesday, November 10, 2021, zero coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases, according to data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

The PHO data was confirmed by the local government after its last patients recovered on Monday.

San Simon is the lone municipality in Pampanga to clear active cases after a series of surges in Covid-19 cases for 2021 alone.

Acting Mayor Leonora Wong said the new development is a win for the people of San Simon, especially frontliners, and the whole community.

"We were able to achieve this because of the sacrifices of all our frontliners, and the patience and cooperation of all Simonians in following the health protocols," Wong told Simonians.

Wong also credited the achievement to the aggressive vaccination drive implemented in the municipality.

She expressed gratitude to the National and Provincial Government for the steady supply of vaccines, as well as private sectors who have been donating thousands of doses of vaccines for Simonians.

Just last week, Wong said the local government has expanded its vaccination drive to minors aged 12 to 13 years old.

San Simon is also among the first towns in Pampanga to vaccinate minors as they started as early as last Thursday, November 4.

As of Monday, she said they were already able to vaccinate some 800 teenagers using Moderna vaccines.

The acting mayor urged Simonians to continue observing health protocols to maintain low, if not zero, active Covid-19 cases in town.

"Let us gift each other this Christmas with safety from Covid-19," she said.
