A TOTAL of 3,316 people were stranded and 4,846 were evacuated in Eastern Visayas as Typhoon "Tisoy" is making its way into the region Monday evening, December 2.

The typhoon is forecast to make landfall over Catanduanes, Albay or Sorsogon between Monday evening and early Tuesday morning, December 3.

As of 5 p.m. Monday, Tisoy was packing maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour (km/h) near the center and gusts of up to 185 km/h while moving west at 25 km/h.

Local government units like Maasin City, Tacloban City, and Palo in Leyte have extended the suspension of classes in all levels until December 3.

As of 5 p.m., the number of vehicles stranded around the region has reached 926, while the number of ships stranded was five.

All flights were cancelled in Tacloban, Catbalogan City, Calbayog City, and Catarman.

Flooded areas include Barangay Poblacion 1, Zumarraga, Samar and Barangay, Macabetas, Jiabong, Samar.

No house or infrastructure was destroyed, as of 6 p.m. Monday.

Police Regional Office-Eastern Visayas said road condition from Maharlika highway junction of Barangay San Agustin, Gandara, Samar to Pagsanghan, Samar is not passable to any type of vehicle.

A total of 858 evacuation centers were established across the region, according to Lieutenant Colonel Ma. Bella Rentuaya, police regional spokesperson.

No casualty, missing or injured has been reported yet.

Areas without power include the whole province of Northern Samar, Samar and Biliran; Babatngon, Palo, and Sta. Fe, Leyte; and Catbalogan, Daram, Hinabangan, Jiabong, Motiong, Marabut, Pagsanghan, Sta. Margarita, Tarangnan, San Jose de Buan, Calbayog City and Pinabacdao, all of Western Samar.

Police also rescued 178 individuals around the region due to Typhoon "Tisoy." (SunStar Philippines)
