THE Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVRMC) in Tacloban City has received new hospital equipment in a bid to boost its healthcare services amid the rising cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the region.

The new medical equipment include one ventilator, a portable x-ray machine, four medical oxygen tanks and two wheelchairs.

“Heroism and patriotism are evident every day in the halls of EVRMC and all the hospitals across the country. We hope to give all the help that we could give in order to ease the difficulties that they are facing each day,” said Tingog party-list Congresswoman Yedda Marie Romualdez.

“More medical equipment are expected to arrive and will benefit other public hospitals in Eastern Visayas. We are grateful to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) for partnering with us in this endeavor that will surely help Tacloban boost its medical services especially now that we are in the middle of a pandemic,” added House Majority Leader and Leyte First District Congressman Ferdinand Martin Romualdez in a statement.

“We hope that the spirit of bayanihan and malasakit will continue to guide all public servants and stakeholders so that we may emerge victorious in these uncertain times,” said Romualdez on Wednesday, September 2.

OCD-Eastern Visayas Director Lord Byran Torrecampo, lawyer Butch Corpin from the office of House Majority Leader, Bonita Lariosa from Tingog partylist, Department of Health (DOH)-Eastern Visayas Director Minerva Molon, and Dr. Honey Jane Blanco-Limos of EVRMC turned over the new equipment to EVRMC-Magsaysay branch on September 1.

Earlier, OCD and Romualdez couple initiated a joint project for free hotel accommodation of 160 medical frontliners of EVRMC at the Leyte Park Hotel & Resort and Madison Park Hotel in Tacloban.

Also, the Department of Public Works and Highways and Romualdez couple turned over 56 airconditioned rooms from converted shipping containers and fabricated materials as temporary mobile facilities for medical frontliners in EVRMC and the Schistosomiasis Hospital in Palo, Leyte.

As of Friday afternoon, September 4, Eastern Visayas has a total of 3,249 Covid-19 cases, with 2,164 recoveries, 1,059 active cases, and 26 deaths.
