Fire gutted 16 houses in Leyte town

A FIRE hit in Barangay San Roque in Isabel, Leyte Saturday, August 15, burning down 16 houses.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Pasar said the incident happened around 9 a.m. Saturday at the house of one Victor Lawas, 47.

According to Lawas, his grandson, who is a special child, was playing a match with his cousin inside their house which started the blaze.

The destroyed houses were made of light materials while the estimated damage was P500,000, authorities said in an initial report.

The BFP declared fire out after an hour.

No one was reportedly killed nor injured during the incident.

A responding unit from Isabel Municipal Police Station led by Master Sergeant Joel Soqueña is investigating the incident. (SunStar Philippines)
