ACTIVE cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) have climbed to 100 in Maasin City, Southern Leyte following the 22 new cases reported on Saturday, October 17,2020.

“In view of this current circumstance, we would like to appeal to all constituents to please strictly follow and adhere to the protocols set forth by the government. We all have the moral and legal responsibilities to stop the spread of the virus,” said Maasin Mayor Nacional Mercado.

In a statement, Mercado said he already instructed their contact tracing team “to submit immediately those who have primary exposure to the patients, as well as their secondary contacts, in order to closely monitor the following individuals in our isolation facility.”

“The said primary and secondary contacts will then undergo a RT-PCR (swab) test,” he said.

The mayor assured the public that the new cases “were already isolated with close monitoring by our medical workers.”

He added that 75 close contacts and four frontliners have tested negative for the novel coronavirus.

Mercado earlier declared Barangays Combado, Tunga-Tunga, Tagnipa, Mantahan and Asuncion under varying containment zones due to several clustering of Covid-19 cases. (SunStar Philippines)
