Woman nabbed for extorting police applicants in Leyte

A 36-YEAR-OLD female medical representative was arrested for alleged extortion activity that victimized police applicants in Palo, Leyte Friday, October 29, 2021.

The suspect was identified as a certain Cherie Q. Pulga, single, and a resident of Palo town.

She was caught in an entrapment operation by operatives of Regional Intelligence Division and Palo Municipal Police Station around 4:30 p.m. Friday.

In the information released by the Police Regional Office-8, the police applicants were allegedly enticed by the suspect "for a sure slot" in the Philippine National Police (PNP) organization in exchange of P20,000.

"The PNP in general does not in any way tolerate this kind of illegal practices especially that we are mandated to follow the Chief PNP’s ongoing massive implementation on the Intensified Cleanliness Policy to include a 'nameless and faceless recruitment,'" said Brigadier General Rommel Bernardo Cabagnot, police regional director.

According to Cabagnot, the new PNP recruitment policy aims to get rid of an unfair and possible corrupt practices in the recruitment process so that only the most qualified can enter in the service.

The police official also urged the public to report similar kind of illegal activities. (SunStar Philippines)
