A SUSPECTED drug courier was killed, while another was wounded and captured, following a shootout in the province of Sulu, the police reported Thursday.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Ronald Zamora, Sulu police community relations officer, disclosed the shootout happened around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the village of Bualo Lipid, Maimbung, Sulu.

Zamora identified the slain suspected drug courier as Binaldin Jalil, 20, who expired upon arrival at the Regional Health Unit of Maimbung.

Wounded and captured was Edzfar Aharaja, 22. He sustained gunshot wound on his right thigh.

Zamora said the shootout ensued as the suspects, riding tandem on a motorcycle, opened fire after they “disregarded and speedup” upon seeing a checkpoint.

He said the police, backed by members of the Barangay Peace-keeping Action Team, established the checkpoint after they received an information that there will be a delivery of illegal drugs in the village of Poblacion, Maimbung coming from the Municipality of Parang.

He said recovered from the suspects were a caliber .38 revolver with two empty shells, a motorcycle, suspected shabu packed in one large-size, one medium-sized and two small-sized heat-sealed plastic sachets, a cellular phone and other illegal drug paraphernalia. (SunStar Philippines)
