1 killed, 1 nabbed in shootout

A SUSPECTED drug personality was killed in a shootout while his companion, who was listed as a high-value target, was arrested and some P170,000 worth of illegal drugs were seized Wednesday, March 27, in Zamboanga Sibugay.

Al-Kheizer Cuartocruz Canda died instantaneously. He allegedly opened fire at police officers who served a search warrant at about 10:10 a.m. Wednesday in Purok Lubay in La Paz, Naga.

His companion, Reynante Alih Abelilla, was arrested after the shootout, said Police Regional Office Zamboanga Peninsula information officer Helen Galvez.

Galvez said the police seized from Abelilla 25 grams of suspected shabu, methamphetamine hydrochloride, with an estimated market value of P170,000; P78,240 cash of different denominations; 5,000 won (Korean currency); weighing scale; and other illegal drugs paraphernalia.

Recovered from the possession of Canda was one caliber .45 pistol with seven live ammunition.

Galvez said Abelilla is detained pending the filing of appropriate charges against him while the remains of Canda were turned over to his family.
