2 arrested for illegal fishing in Zamboanga del Sur

TWO people, including a village official, were arrested in a law enforcement operation for illegal fishing in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported on Saturday, May 26.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office (PRO) in Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified those arrested as Perduce Maagad, 52, and Edgar Dayondon, 29.

Galvez said Maagad, a village councilor, was arrested in a law enforcement operation by way of service of warrant of arrest around 8 a.m. in the village of Poblacion, Tabina, Zamboanga del Sur.

Galvez said Maagad has standing warrant of arrest for the crime of unauthorized fishing with P6,000 recommended bail issued by the Seventh Municipal Circuit Trial Court (MCTC) of Dimataling, Tabina and Pitogo.

Galvez said Dayondon, a fisherman, was arrested also in a law enforcement operation around 7:30 a.m. in the village of Sumpot, Dimataling, Zamboanga del Sur.

She said like Maagad, Dayondon has standing warrant of arrest for unauthorized fishing issued by the Seventh MCTC of Dimataling, Tabina and Pitogo with P6,000 recommended bail.

She said both Maagad and Dayondon were temporarily detained at the police stations of Tabina and Dimataling waiting for final adjudication from court. (SunStar Philippines)
