THIRTY farmers from seven villages in Zamboanga City have undergone a two-day Package of Technology (POT) Training on Banana to increase production.
Arnulfo Estrada, local agricultural program coordinator, said the training was conducted by the Department of Agriculture-Zamboanga Peninsula under its high-value crops development program (HVCD) from June 7 until June 8 in Zamboanga City.
Estrada said the farmers who attended the two-day training were from the villages of Ayala, Tumaga, Culianan, Manicahan, Victoria, Curuan and Vitali.
He said the participants, in the course of the two-day training, were lectured on different topics concerning banana production.
These are introduction to banana production; cultural management practices; planting materials; organic banana production; good agricultural practices on Lakatan production; pests and their control; diseases and their control; and farm rehabilitation for Cardava production.
A demonstration on the preparation of banana planting materials was done by staff from the Office of the City Agriculturist, Estrada said.
The resource speakers of the two-day training were focal persons from the Department of Agriculture-Zamboanga Peninsula and Office of the City Agriculture. (SunStar Zamboanga)
