CBFM-Carp beneficiaries trained on rubber, abaca production

A GROUP of farmers underwent a two-day training on field budding operation, rubber tapping and production of abaca in the province of Zamboanga del Norte.

Rosevirico Tan, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) information officer, said Tuesday, November 9, that the training was conducted by the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office-Siocon last week in Lintangan, Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte.

Tan said those who attended the training were Community-Based Forest Management-Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CBFM-Carp) beneficiaries of Lintangan Farmer's Cooperative Association Incorporated.

Tan said different strategies were discussed, particularly on the conduct of actual production of abaca handicrafts and the actual field budding of (rubber) and tapping of latex on rubber trees, which are vital in managing the established CBFM-Carp plantations.

Tan said hands-on field activity also helped further the positive perception and appreciation of the participants on the essential practices engaged in the operation of rubber plantation and abaca products.

He said the training also aims to orient the participants of their role and function as CBFM holders and to capacitate the participants in keeping a complete and accurate record of all financial transaction in a systematic, orderly and logical manner.

He said proper solid waste management was also imparted to the beneficiaries to ensure clean environment for them to live healthy while reaping the fruit of their labor. (SunStar Zamboanga)
