Ex-NPA rebel arrested in law enforcement operation

GOVERNMENT security forces have arrested a former member of the New People's Army (NPA) in a law enforcement operation in Misamis Occidental, the police reported Wednesday, December 8.

Police Major Shellamie Chang, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the arrested former member of the NPA as Toti Gonzagon, 29, a resident of Daniel C. Mantos village, Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur.

Chang said t Gonzagon was nabbed in a law enforcement operation on Tuesday, December 7, in Burgos village, Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental.

Gonzagon has a standing warrant of arrest for frustrated murder with P200,000 recommended bail issued on November 19, 2018 by the court of Molave, Zamboanga del Sur.

She said the suspect was a former member of the Guerilla Front "Sendong" of the NPA's Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee operating in some parts of Misamis Occidental and Zamboanga del Norte.

She said the suspect was placed under the temporary custody of the 10th Infantry Battalion in Burgos village, Oroquieta City. (SunStar Zamboanga)
