Ex-town official arrested in Zambo Norte

A FORMER town official was arrested in Zamboanga del Norte for violation of the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines, the police said Tuesday, August 07, 2018.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said arrested was Manuel Sulit, 64, the former mayor of La Libertad town.

She said Sulit was arrested around 9 a.m. Monday in Poblacion village, La Libertad town by warrant of arrest with recommended bail of P6,000 issued by the Seventh Division of the Sandiganbayan.

The information officer said Sulit was charged for violation of the Revised Penal Code’s Article 218 for failure of accountable officer to render accounts.

She said that Article 218 of the Revised Penal Code states that “Any public officer, whether in the service or separated therefrom by resignation or any other cause, who is required by law or regulation to render account to the Insular Auditor, or to a provincial auditor and who fails to do so for a period of two months after such accounts should be rendered, shall be punished by prision correccional in its minimum period, or by a fine ranging from P200 to P6,000, or both.” (SunStar Philippines)
