IMT-15 chief visits Westmincom

MAJOR General Dato’ Hj Muhammad Anwar of the Royal Malaysian Armed Forces vowed to support the peace efforts of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Anwar issued the statement during his visit Friday, October 30, to Camp Basilio Navarro, which houses the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) headquarters in Zamboanga City.

“I wish to thank the officers, men and women of the Western Mindanao Command for the hospitality. Let us continue to work together for the attainment of peace here in Mindanao,” Anwar said.

Anwar is the current head of mission of the International Monitoring Team-15 (IMT-15).

During his visit, Anwar was accorded with full military honors by the officers, enlisted personnel and civilian human resource at the parade ground of the Westmincom.

He was then welcomed by Lieutenant General Corleto Vinluan, Jr., commander of Westmincom, and the command staff at the Bautista Lounge.

“We gladly thank Major General Muhammad Anwar for taking the time to visit the command. Rest assured that we will sustain our strong cooperation to address security challenges in our areas of common concerns,” Vinluan said.

The IMT oversees the peace implementation between the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

It is responsible to monitor the security, humanitarian, rehabilitation and development aspects, socio-economic assistance and civilian protection. (SunStar Zamboanga)
