SUSPECTED New People’s Army (NPA) rebels have killed a farmer in a gun attack in the hinterlands of Zamboanga del Norte, the police said Tuesday, June 26.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident occurred around 10:15 a.m. Monday at Sitio Datagan in Guibo village, Siayan.

Galvez identified the fatality as Diosdado Malanao, 56, who died instantaneously.

The police officer said the victim was outside his residence together with his family when five armed NPA rebels arrived.

She said the rebels pointed their rifles and shouted to the victim’s family “you are not involved, we are only after him (Malanao)” and opened fire.

She said the rebels fled and recovered from the crime scene were three empty shells of M-14 rifle. (SunStar Philippines)
