THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has deployed additional vessel providing a boost to its forces here in the Southwestern Mindanao District.

Deployed to the area of the PCG-Southwestern Mindanao District is the BRP-Bagacay (MRRV-4410) which arrived on Tuesday, September 18, at the port of Zamboanga. The district is under the command of Captain Joseph Coyme.

Lieutenant Commander Noriel Ramos, Zamboanga Coast Guard Station Commander, said the BRP-Bagacay is the third Parola-class patrol vessels the PCG has deployed in this part of the country.

The two vessels of the same class are the BRP-Malabrigo (MRRV-4404) and the BRP-Cape San Agustin (MRRV-4408).

Ramos said the BRP-Bagacay is the ninth of the 10 MRRVs the PCG has acquired through a soft loan from Japan as part of the Maritime Safety Improvement Project of the Japan International Cooperative Agency (JICA) to the Philippines.

Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) chief, said the MRRV will truly enhance the capability of the Coastguard in the region.

Dela Vega said the deployment of the new vessel will be of big help to the Westmincom in securing the territorial waters in this part of the country. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
