Police nab village watchman in anti-drug sting

A VILLAGE watchman (tanod) was arrested in an anti-drug operation in Zamboanga City, the police reported.

Police Major Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the suspect as Ben Abdul Ismael alias Hatib, 46, a village watchman of Kasanyangan, this city.

Galvez said Ismael was arrested by the operatives of the Police Station 10’s Drug Enforcement Team in a drug bust around 3 a.m. Thursday at Sitio Asinan in Kasanyangan Village.

She said seized from Ismael were some P3,000 worth of suspected “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) packed in five heat-sealed plastic sachets and P200 marked money.

The arrested suspect was detained while formal charges are set to be filed against him, Galvez added. (SunStar Zamboanga)
