Sibugay town employee killed in gun attack

A GOVERNMENT employee was killed in a drive-by gun attack in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Sunday, June 4, 2023.

Police Colonel Eduard Mallo, Zamboanga Sibugay police director, identified the fatality as Charlene Joy Dela Cruz, 23, an employee of Tungawan municipal government.

Mallo said that Dela Cruz was shot and killed around 9:05 a.m. Saturday, June 3, in Purok Tandang Sora, Tupilac village, R.T. Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Investigation showed Dela Cruz was driving her motorcycle travelling to Surabay village, R.T. Lim when shot by a lone gunman driving a motorcycle that tailed the victim.

The victim, who was hit in the head, was rushed to the hospital by concerned residents but was declared dead by the attending physician.

The suspect sped off towards the town of R.T. Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Mallo said investigation continues to establish the identity of the suspect behind the incident. (SunStar Zamboanga)
