Son wounded; father nabbed in law enforcement operation

ONE person was arrested while another was wounded in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police said Monday, April 6.

Arrested was Remegio Araneta, 58, while wounded was his son, Ismael, 30, according to the Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula.

The police said the elder Araneta was arrested after a warrant of arrest was served against him around 5:45 a.m. Sunday at Sitio Tampat in Lakiki Village, Sibuco, Zamboanga Del Norte.

The police said he is facing charges before a court in Zamboanga City for robbery in band as defined under Article 296 of the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines as amended by Republic act 7659.

The younger Araneta was wounded when shot by a policeman after he tried to shoot one of them serving the warrant against his father, the police added.

Confiscated from the father and son were one caliber .45 pistol with five live ammunition and three air-propelled gun (marble gun), the police said.

The elder Araneta was detained while his son was taken to a hospital in this city for treatment, the police said. (SunStar Zamboanga)
