Vice mayoralty bet supporter unscathed in gun attack

A SUPPORTER of an incumbent municipal mayor seeking election for a lower post managed to escape unscathed in a gun attack in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Tuesday, May 3.

Unscathed was Ruel Mogalin, 46, a casual employee of the Municipal Government of San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur.

Police Colonel Diomarie Albarico, Zamboanga del Sur police director, said the incident happened around 8:25 a.m. Monday, May 2, in Purok 3, Langilan village, San Miguel.

Albarico said investigation showed that Mogalin was driving his motorcycle on his way to work at San Miguel Municipal Hall when repeatedly shot by an unidentified man who was armed with an M-16 Armalite rifle.

He said Mogalin luckily dodged and escaped unscathed.

Mogalin was identified as supporter of incumbent San Miguel Mayor Angelito Martinez, who is seeking election as vice mayor.

Albarico said the San Miguel Municipal Police Station is continuously conducting investigation to identify the gunman. (SunStar Zamboanga)
