Village exec dies, 1 hurt in highway accident

A VILLAGE official died, while another rider was injured in a highway accident in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported Thursday, July 9.

The Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula said the incident happened around 10:10 p.m. Wednesday in Poblacion village, Piñan, Zamboanga del Norte.

The police identified the fatality as Darius Pausal Icao, 31, a councilor in the village of San Miguel, Mutia, Zamboanga del Norte.

Wounded was Mark John Rey Palma Yuson, a resident of Poblacion, village, Mutia.

Investigation showed that Icao, was driving a motorcycle toward Mutia town when he accidentally sideswiped Yuson, who was also driving a motorcycle and traveling on the same direction.

The police said that Yuson sustained injuries as he crashed on the pavement, while Icao lost control of the steering bar and bumped the rear bumper of a parked wing van.

Icao, due to the impact of collision, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Piñan District Hospital for treatment.

However, the police said the attending physician declared Icao dead on arrival. (SunStar Zamboanga)
