ZAMBOANGA City will join the nation in commemorating Wednesday, June 12, the 121st Philippine Independence Day.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar will lead government officials and delegates from different sectors in the Independence Day rites, which will kick off at 8 a.m.

The Independence Day program will have a flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate the country’s independence from Spain in 1898.

This will be followed by a cultural presentation and the Mayor’s Independence Day message.

The observance is expected to gather government officials and employees, as well as delegations from different organizations, groups, and sectors, and to inspire Zamboangueños to remain united and committed to nation-building.

The commemoration of the Independence Day this year is anchored on the theme “Tapang ng Bayan, Malasakit sa Mamamayan.” ( Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
