THE Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and Governor Bong Lacson have launched the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) On-Farm Coconut Hybridization Project in Brgy. Purisima, Municipality of Manapla. The project aims to mass-produce high-quality coconut hybrids using standard hybridization protocols and good agricultural practices for distribution to farmers and industry stakeholders.

The on-farm coconut hybridization project is part of the PCA's Accelerated Planting and Replanting Program, which seeks to increase coconut production in the region. The project was launched in the presence of PCA 6 Regional Manager Dr. Neil Melencion, PCA Negros Occ. Division Chief Engr. Serafin Auster Layog IV, PCA Administrator Bernie Cruz, Manapla Mayor Manuel Escalante III, Project Proponent Jose Gerardo Francisco III, and other guests.

Governor Lacson expressed gratitude to the Department of Agriculture and PCA for selecting Negros Occidental, particularly Manapla, to be part of PCA's Coconut Hybridization Program. He added that the project is timely and strategic, and with relevant policy interventions and enabling mechanisms, it can pave the way to a stronger agricultural sector, resiliency, and food security.

The CFIDP On-Farm Coconut Hybridization Project will help increase the region's coconut production, benefiting local farmers and industry stakeholders. Through the use of standard hybridization protocols and good agricultural practices, the project will ensure that high-quality coconut hybrids are produced and distributed to those who need them.* (PR)
