Rotary reaches out to elders amid pandemic

AS PEOPLE get older, their productivity also diminish. Physical limitations come with aging. However, years of experience also make our elders wiser.

With or without Covid-19, the plight of the elders is a matter of concern to most of them, citing their fundamental need for healthy food, maintenance medicines and a routine check-up to their physicians for longevity.

In this light, the Rotary Club of Bacolod-East led by president Belinda Siason steered the wheels of Rotary towards the sector of the elders of Bacolod City by providing them food subsidy recently.

Dubbed as "Rotary Delivery," a group of Rotarians zoomed to Barangay Alangilan in Bacolod City to join a community of senior citizens to fulfill such endeavor.

The elders were delighted with the concern shown by the Rotarians and were thankful of the food packs they received.

One can see how delighted they were to see that there are a group of citizens who are still remembering them in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic where everyone also has necessities to confront.

Giving is more meaningful when done in the season of insufficiency, said RCBE President Siason.

This is the real value of giving wherein in the midst of one's insufficiency, you still liked to share something to others. What we provided were not that much, but still, we put a little smile on the faces of our elders in those moments, she said.

It was also a time that Rotarians expanded their campaign to help achieve the eradication of Polio in the community and in the world.

Rotary International has bannered this relevant campaign on "PolioPlus" in 1985.

Through decades of commitment and work by Rotary and their partners, more than 2.5 billion children have received the oral polio vaccine.

The campaign is underscored annually.
