Biker files vexation complaint against prankster

UNJUST vexation complaint was lodged yesterday, October 4, by one of the participants of the 1st Balik Yuhom XC Race against a spectator who gave her dirty water scooped from a stream to drink.

Station 5 commander Captain John Christopher Magsangkay said the complainant originally only wanted to record the incident but they advised her to file unjust vexation instead.

“This will now be referred to the council of the barangay (Vista Alegre) where the incident happened for a possible settlement,” Magsangkay said.

If there’s no settlement, the barangay will issue a certificate to file action in court, he said.

In a radio interview, the complainant said she will undergo blood and urine tests to ensure that she did not contract any disease from drinking the dirty water.

The organizers of the bike race earlier condemned the “mischievous” act done by some spectators which was recorded on a cellphone camera and later made rounds on social media.

“We don’t want that prank to mar the success of the bike run,” the organizers said in a statement, adding that they already apologized to the victim who actually won the race in the LGBTQ category.

According to the organizers, the culprits were not members of the biking community in Bacolod City and were “pandemic bikers" who took cycling as a hobby during the time that restrictions due to coronavirus disease (Covid-19) were still in effect.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Health and Sanitation will call the attention of the involved personalities, the proper department involved and conduct a conference in aid of legislation.

Councilor Claudio Puentevella, who heads the committee, stressed that matters like this should not be repeated nor tolerated.*
