THE Bacolod City Council approved a resolution requesting the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) to take action on mentally-disabled persons roaming the different streets of Bacolod City.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Archie Baribar, was approved during the regular session of the City Council Wednesday, July 1.

Baribar, chairperson of the City Council committee on senior citizens and veterans affairs, said in the past weeks, several incidents of mentally-disabled persons roaming the streets of Bacolod City and causing destruction to properties had been reported with the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).

He said these incidents had caused alarm and anxiety on residents and motorists especially, within the downtown area.

"There is a need to address these incidents to maintain peace and order in the city," he added.

Police Station 2 also earlier asked the assistance of DSSD after a man believed to be suffering from a mental illness was found dead in Reclamation Area, Barangay 10, Bacolod City.

Investigation showed the victim, a homeless mentally challenged, 5'5" in height, was found lying beside the road by a traffic enforcer in the Reclamation Area.
