AFTER being quarantined for almost a week due to coronavirus disease (Covid-19), Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson led Friday, January 28, the inauguration and turnover of a P32-million isolation facility at the Annex Building of Cadiz District Hospital.

The facility has 100-bed capacity and is ready for use, Lacson said, adding that it used to be a nursing school of Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology (Nonescost).

Currently, the hospital has 93 beds for Covid-19 patients and with the opening of the annex building, there will now be 193 beds available, Lacson said.

"When Covid-19 pandemic is over, we will use the facility for regular patients of the hospital," the governor said.

He added that as of Friday, 120 Covid-19 patients have been admitted at the hospital and some of them may be transferred to the new facility.

Lacson said the isolation facilities of the province are ready in case the Covid-19 cases continue to surge.

Meanwhile, he said he experienced mild symptoms of Covid-19 and got cured of medication without hospital admission.

He also warned that although mild, the new variants of the disease are highly contagious.
