Negros Occidental still under MGCQ

Teresa D. Ellera

GOVERNOR Eugenio Jose Lacson, through an Executive Order, has extended the modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) status of Negros Occidental until August 15, 2020.

Lacson, in Executive Order No. 20-35, series of 2020, stated that the province has 417 confirmed coronavirus disease (Covid-19)-positive cases, as of July 29, while the entire country has more than 85,486 Covid-19 positive cases. Because of the rising number of Covid-19 in the country, there is still a need to place the Province of Negros Occidental under MGCQ.

The province was placed under MGCQ under the Provisions of EO No.20-25, series of 2020, extended under EO No.20-26. It was again extended under EO No. 20-28, series of 2020 until July 15 and further extended under EO No. 20-32 until July 31.

Lacson's EO further extending the MGCQ will douse speculations in the past few days that the province will be put back under the enhanced community quarantine because of some local transmission of Covid-19.
