CEBU CITY -- An American national survived after the yacht he was boarding from Guam was wafted to the shores of Ogis Island, Oras in Eastern Samar.

Philippine Coast Guard Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo said John McMahan, 51, a resident of Evon, Indiana, was headed for Lucena, Quezon from Guam when his yacht ran out of fuel and was wafted ashore on Ogis Island by strong winds.

Tamayo said fishermen found McMahan near the vicinity of Ogis Island Saturday morning. He was then turned over to Oras Mayor Neil Alvarez.

The yacht was drifting the Philippine Sea for several days before it reached Oras, a municipality in Eastern Samar, Tamayo said.

The vessel now undergoes repairs in Oras wharf. (Sunnex)
