Illegal gun holders nabbed in Cordillera

THREE individuals were arrested by Police Regional Office (PRO)-Cordillera for illegal possession of firearms in Kalinga and Benguet.

A caretaker, identified as Kevin Tabagan Banatao, 23, of Taggay, Pinukpuk, Kalinga, was arrested for gun possession on June 28 in Barangay Tuga, Tabuk City.

Confiscated from Tabagan were a M16 rifle with a magazine loaded with 17 ammunition, several ammunitions for cal. 5.56 mm gun and a short empty magazine for M16, including two pieces of binoculars.

Another gunowner identified as Vicente Acday, 55, was arrested after he was frisked at the entrance of the Municipal Hall in Liwan West, Rizal, Kalinga in the morning of June 26.

Upon verification, police confiscated a caliber 9mm loaded with seven ammunition.

In Abra, a suspect who was under surveillance for alleged involvement in illegal drugs was apprehended in Barangay Patiao, Peñarrubia, Abra in the afternoon of June 25.

The suspect, identified as Glenn Alfred Penamante Beleno, was nabbed for carrying caliber .38 handgun without serial number loaded with three ammunitions.

Brigadier General R'win Pagkalinawan, PRO-Cordillera director, said the region's police will continue to implement the arrest of individuals illegally possessing firearms which can be utilized in conducting illegal activities as this is a clear violation of the law.
