CORDILLERA’S Denver Tacay hurled the shot put at 10.22 meters to enroute to bagging the gold medal in the elementary boys as the region still scamper for medal production in the fourth day of the Palarong Pambansa in Davao City.

Tacay, who earned the Palaro trip after topping the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association last February won the region’s first gold in athletics besting JUstin Fernando Bañez of Region 2 who settled for silver while Lyndon Huelar of Region 6 salvaged bronze.

Two more gold medals were added courtesy of taekwondo and one from wrestling as the region has already accumulated 10 gold medals, including seven silvers and 16 bronzes.

Stephen Timothy Sales was a force to reckon with in taekwondo secondary boys finweight division while Rommel Anthony Mark Ulat top the featherweight category.

Danielle Sansan, meanwhile, wrestled her way to the gold medal after topping the wrestling competition in secondary girls winning in the cadet girls 48 kgs category.

Former Palarong Pambansa gold medalist Charmaine Angela Villamor settled for silver in archery (60 meters) while Angelo Paet added a bronze medal in the secondary boys arnis – anyo individual event double weapon.

The trio of Cedrick Aron Calicdan, Ezekyl Habig, and Rod Xhedrick Mendoza also took home a silver in the anyo team event – single weapon in secondary boys arnis while light heavyweight Liquiza Obas salvaged a bronze in secondary girls taekwondo.

Judel Brenth Ognayon (cadet boys – 46 kgs) and Criselyn Lusadan (cadet girls – 44 kgs) won bronze each in wrestling.

The National Capital Region currently sits on top of the medal standings with its 44 - 39 - 25 medal haul followed by Region 4A (Calabarzon) with 34 - 24 - 44 as Western Visayas hangs on to third with 33 - 17 - 27.

Rounding up the top five are Region 12 (Soccsksargen) with 19 - 30 - 17 as Region 5 (Bicol) has 16 - 17 - 21. CAR is currently at eighth place based on the partial medal standing as of 3 p.m. of May 2.
