INVESTIGATORS have identified a stabbing victim in 2018 as a person of interest in the killing of a criminology student last Friday, May 17.

The victim identified as 21 year-old Marjun Mejos of Bonbon, Cagayan de Oro City was found dead in Camacawan, Indahag town. His body was partially burned.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Mardy Hortillosa II, said the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) is still examining the victim's body to determine whether Mejos was killed before his body was burned.

Police said Mejos was charged with frustrated homicide for allegedly stabbing a certain Rico Anthony Sison in Barangay Camaman-an last November 8, 2018.

Mejos posted bail amounting to P72,000 pending trial.

Police said Sison is now a person of interest "since the manner in which the crime was committed shows an assailant exacting vengeance."

Authorities are looking into personal grudge as motive.
